An injection-molded plastic kit of the German assault gun Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.B in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. The model offers the low enclosed superstructure without a turret, running gear with wider tracks and a barrel that can be raised and lowered once it is assembled. A metal barrel, a photo-etched grille over the engine air intake, one commander figure and decals for several machines are included. Tamiya is among the best on this subject, with excellent buildability.
The StuG III Ausf.B was the first series-built form of this assault gun - from June 1940 about two hundred and fifty of them were made. The vehicle was based on the chassis of the Panzer III tank, had a heavily armored low superstructure (50 mm at the front, 30 mm on the sides) and carried the short 75 mm StuK 37 L/24 gun intended for direct fire support of the infantry. It was powered by a Maybach HL 120 TRM gasoline engine of 230 horsepower. It was used in the Balkans in the spring of 1941 and at the beginning of the campaign against the Soviet Union.
Assemble the running gear with the tracks and paint the interior of the fighting compartment before you close the superstructure up. Glue the parts with a liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched grille with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer and spray the early German gray (Panzergrau) with an airbrush; weathering comes from a wash in the recesses, from picking out the edges and from dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
