The Sturmpanzer IV was a heavily armored assault vehicle built on the chassis of the Panzer IV and carried a short howitzer in a superstructure with markedly thick frontal armor. The added weight told precisely on the running gear. Late machines therefore ran on road wheels with an all-steel rim instead of the usual rubber tire band, which came both from the higher loading of the running gear and from the shortage of rubber at the end of the war. A wheel without rubber is recognized at first glance: it has a smooth metal circumference and a differently reinforced disc.
The set brings all-steel road wheels in 1:35 scale as a finished replacement for the parts from the kit. According to the name it is dimensioned for the Tamiya kit, so it should fit into its chassis without adjusting the spacing.
Cut the excess material and the marks of manufacture off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest back. Wash and degrease the wheels before painting. It is worth painting them separately and seating them only afterward, because there is little room for a brush between the wheels and the track. An all-steel wheel moreover allows an effect that does not work on a rubber tire band: contact with the track polishes the circumference to a metallic shine, so a light pass with a silver pencil along the edge gives the model a well-used look.
For modelers who build German vehicles on the Panzer IV chassis in 1:35 scale and want to bring them to the late form. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
