1:35 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Interceptor is a glued plastic kit of the American missile defense system THAAD in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This glued plastic kit represents the launcher of the American missile defense system THAAD, that is defense against ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of their flight. Its basis is a heavy eight-wheeled chassis with a handling crane, on which the canister of interceptors rests. The model in 1:35 scale is large and technically rewarding, because it combines a finely detailed truck chassis with a hydraulically elevated canister.
The THAAD system was developed by the United States to destroy short and medium-range ballistic missiles before they reach their target. The interceptor carries no conventional warhead but strikes the target by direct impact, which places extraordinary demands on guidance accuracy. A battery consists of launchers, a radar, a command post and support, so the launch vehicle itself is only one part of the whole. The canister on the vehicle holds eight interceptors and elevates into the firing position.
A chassis with a large number of wheels calls for patience when setting the axles, so that all the wheels sit evenly. It is best to paint the interceptor canister separately and assemble it at the end, so that you can reach every surface. Modern American vehicles usually wear a single desert or field shade, which you can bring to life by lightening the large surfaces and picking out the gaps in a darker tone. Keep the patina restrained, as this kind of equipment tends to be well maintained and cleaner than combat vehicles.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
