An injection-molded plastic kit of the American armored scout car M3A1, known as the White Scout Car, in its early production form. It is neither a tank nor a half-track carrier but a wheeled car on a truck chassis with an open body and an armored tub. The scale is 1:35.
The M3A1 was designed as a fast scout and liaison car meant to give its crew protection against splinters and small arms fire, not against anti-tank fire. The body was open at the top and a rail ran around its edge along which the machine guns slid, so that the crew could fire in any direction without moving the weapon. Besides its crew the car could carry a few infantrymen. It was built from 1940 through most of the war and was used not only by the US Army but by the whole circle of Allies to whom it was supplied under aid programs. Early and late machines differ in the details of their equipment and of the front fitting.
The open body is fully on show, so finish and paint the interior before the upper parts go on. Assemble the machine gun rail carefully, as it carries the whole upper outline of the vehicle. An olive finish comes alive with lightening on the horizontal surfaces, a running wash in the recesses and rub-through on the edges and the steps. Earthy pigments belong on the tires and the underside of the body.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
