The RSOV, or Ranger Special Operations Vehicle, is a light cross-country vehicle of the US 75th Ranger Regiment, derived from the British Land Rover Defender 110 cross-country car. The body is lightened and open, with room for gunners and for weapon mounts; the vehicle bet on speed and visibility rather than on armor protection. It was used for moving small detachments quickly and for patrolling, both in the operations of the 1990s and later in the Middle East and in Central Asia. The open structure means the crew is visible from outside, which makes the figures an inseparable part of the final impression. At the same time these vehicles tend to be covered with jerrycans, ammunition, sleeping kit and personal belongings, because patrols lasted a long time.

Build the skin tones up in layers from a darker base to lighter high points; the result looks more alive than a single flat color. Bring out the textiles with a wash in the folds and a fine lightening of the edges. Treat not only the wheels and the lower areas of the vehicle with dust pigments but the footwear and the lower legs of the figures as well, or they will look separate. Plan the positions of the figures before you start painting.
