The third form of deflated tires for the VW Schwimmwagen 1:35 completes models of the amphibian that are to stand without moving. The collapse of the tire is handled differently from the rest of the range.
Responsibility details are not available.
In 1:35 size the floating Type 166 is completed by wheels that have lost their pressure. The number three differs from its siblings in where the largest fold arises and how deep the rubber settles toward the edge of the disc. They can be fitted to a finished and to a part-built model alike.
Amphibious vehicles appeared in Normandy, in the Italian mountains and in the Balkans, where swollen streams gave them no trouble. In winter, however, there was no insulation of any kind and a tub with an open crew compartment meant driving in the frost. Units therefore wrapped the vehicles in tarpaulins, blankets and anything that was at hand, and stowed jerrycans and personal baggage on the fenders. It is precisely this untidiness that makes a small machine a rewarding subject, because every example looked different and photographs from the front differ strikingly from one another.
Settled tires help plant the vehicle in the ground: the wheel can be sunk a little into the base and the transition disguised with mud or grass. The vehicle is then not stuck onto the base but really standing in it. Add boot prints, the tracks of other equipment and small debris around it, so that it is clear that the machine has stayed there for some time.
Neither the vehicle nor glue is enclosed with the set.
