A resin wheel set in 1:35 scale for the British Austin K2 truck of the Second World War period. The set is not a kit of the vehicle; it is an accessory with which you replace the plastic wheels from the box. The tires carry the India tread pattern, India being one of the period British tire makers, and it is the tread that sets this set apart from the sister sets with the patterns of other brands.
Plastic wheels are usually split, and their parting line runs straight across the tread, so it has to be sanded down and the pattern is damaged in the process. A resin casting is one piece, and the tread detail and the lettering on the sidewall stay crisp. The wheel is cast with a weighted tire effect: the contact patch is flattened and the sidewall bulges slightly, as if the weight of the vehicle were resting on it. The model then looks as though it really stands on the ground.
The Austin K2 was a British truck best known in the form of the heavy K2/Y ambulance with a box body. The vehicles served with British and Allied units for practically the whole war and remain a popular diorama subject to this day, because they combine well with figures and scenic accessories. Tires were supplied by several makers, so period trucks differed in their tread pattern too.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent, otherwise the primer will not hold. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a knife, level the surface and sand wet with respiratory protection. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The easiest way is to paint the rim and the tread separately before the wheels go on the model; a dark wash and dust pigment complete the finish.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
