An injection-molded plastic kit of the American destroyer USS Buchanan DD-484 of the Gleaves class in her 1942 state, in 1:350 scale. The kit is usually laid out so that it can be built as a waterline version or as a full hull on the stand enclosed. Photo-etched parts and decals usually complete the package; check the exact contents against the instructions.
USS Buchanan was a destroyer of the Gleaves class, one of the classes of American escort and strike destroyers of the Second World War. She entered service in 1942 and operated in the Pacific, where she took part in the fighting at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She also went down in history because in August 1945 she carried the command to the battleship USS Missouri for the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay. The Gleaves class carried dual-purpose 127 mm guns, torpedo tube mounts and anti-submarine armament.
Decide in advance whether you are building the waterline version or the full hull, because it affects the order of assembly and the use of the stand. Bond thin photo-etched parts, that is railings and radars, with super glue. Spray the deck and the hull with an airbrush and apply the disruptive camouflage in layers over masks. Bring out the panel and rivet lines with a dark wash and the wooden decks with a dry brush. A matte varnish will unify the surface, and metal parts can be completed with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
