The second numbered structure from the coastal range in 1:350 scale. The point of the whole range is simple: the modeler buys several different buildings and puts together a row of them that does not look like a repeated copy. This item is therefore meant above all for those who already have one structure and need to extend the surroundings of their ship with another object.
The rule of odd numbers helps when you are arranging them: three objects read more naturally than two or four lined up side by side. Turn each building a little differently and leave passages between them, so that the impression of a street appears. If the structures stand in a row along the seafront, move one of them deeper into the area – irregularity is what distinguishes a scene from a tabletop mock-up.
At 1:350 it is contrast rather than the amount of detail that decides the impression. Keep the facade in a lighter tone and the roof markedly different, because it is their difference that defines the building at first glance. Make the transitions soft and the shadows mild; a sharp black outline would flatten the structure. Suggest slight soiling at the foot of the wall by stippling rather than with a continuous brush stroke, or you will get the impression of a smear.
