The real subject

The Junkers Ju 88 belonged among the hardest-worked machines of the Luftwaffe in the Second World War. The A-4 version was a bomber variant with a strengthened structure, increased span and more powerful Junkers Jumo engines. The glazed nose, in which most of the crew worked together, is characteristic. It is precisely this glazed cockpit that is the most demanding place during the build of a model, because there are many frames and they run in three different planes.

How to approach the painting

• First rid the glazing of grease and let it dry off freely.
• Lay the templates down step by step and check whether they sit on the engraved edges.
• Apply the interior shade of the cockpit first and only then the covering camouflage.
• Use several thin layers rather than one heavy one.
• Once the work is finished, inspect the edges and correct any bleed with a scalpel.
