About product

DP Casper, Ring above the Aegean Sea, October 8, 1996 (1:48)

This set of waterslide decals (wet decals) presents the incident over the Aegean Sea of October 8, 1996, when Greek and Turkish machines faced one another. The sheets cover the markings and national insignia for several types of aircraft involved in the episode, among them the Mirage 2000, the F-16, the Phantom F-4E and RF-4E and the AB-205 helicopter. It is not a kit and not a plastic accessory; it is a set of decals to transfer onto a model already built and painted.

Use

  • the decal is cut out, dipped in lukewarm water for a few seconds and slid off the backing onto the model
  • it is applied over smooth, ideally gloss varnish so that no silvering bubbles form
  • a decal softener helps it settle; once dry the surface is gone over with matte or semi-gloss varnish

Who the set is for

  • modelers interested in Cold War air arms and the tension in the eastern Mediterranean
  • builders of Greek and Turkish military equipment in 1:48 scale
  • collectors of unusual historical schemes

The set contains decals only. The model, the paints and the varnish are not included in the package.

FAQ

The markings relate to several types involved in the episode, among others the Mirage 2000, the F-16 and the Phantoms; the AB-205 helicopter is included as well.

They are conventional wet decals: after a dip in water they slide onto the model. They hold best on gloss varnish.

No. These are decals only; a finished painted model has to be ready.
