1:48 Fairey Fulmar Mk.II wheel bay plugs — shaped Omask plugs that protect the wheel bays of the Fulmar kit from Trumpeter while the camouflage is sprayed.
Responsibility details are not available.
A practical masking aid from the Omask brand for the Fairey Fulmar Mk.II kit from Trumpeter in 1:48 scale. Instead of lengthily lining the wheel bays with masking tape or stuffing them with paper tissues, you simply insert the shaped plugs into the openings, and they protect the inside of the bays while the lower surfaces are sprayed. Once the camouflage is finished you take them out and the finished, painted interior of the bays stays untouched, without sharp ridges of paint on the edges of the cutouts. On an aircraft with a striking scheme on the lower surfaces this is an aid that saves a lot of time and nerves.
The Fairey Fulmar was a two-seat carrier fighter of the Fleet Air Arm, deployed from 1940 above all to protect convoys and carrier formations. The Mk.II version differed from the older variant mainly in a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and modifications of the equipment. The landing gear retracted into the wing and the open bays with their visible internal structure are impossible to miss on the underside of a model, exactly the areas you want reliably protected while spraying.
Paint and shade the bays first, then insert the plugs and go on with spraying the lower and the upper surfaces of the camouflage. Take the plugs out only after all the layers including any final varnish have dried.
