ELEFANT offers a replacement for the return roller bases on the later forms of the German chassis. The name gives the Pz.III tanks in the M and N versions and the StuG III assault guns in the F and G versions, the parts carry a marked casting number and the contents cover a pair of vehicles. The pattern 1 distinction refers to one of the two forms in which the set is offered.
The roller that carries the upper run of the track rests on a base on the side of the hull, and its shape changed on the later production batches compared with the early machines. Anyone building a particular vehicle from a period photograph will appreciate being able to reach for the form that matches their subject. A replacement part also tends to be sharper in shape than the corresponding place in a production mold, so it is worth having even on an ordinary build with no further work on the model.
Remove the original shape carefully, ideally by a combination of cutting and sanding, and keep offering the new part up so that you keep the spacing right. Clear the surface of dust, and only then glue. Before you start spraying, check by dry-fitting that the rollers sit in one plane once they are on; a base seated out of true is far more visible on a finished model than a small difference in shape. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the detail is not flooded.
