Ridge tiles in 1:48 scale from the brand Firma49 close off the ridge of a model roof on buildings and ruins in a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
A ridge tile is the shaped piece that on a real building closes off the ridge of a roof where two roof planes meet. Without it a model roof looks unfinished, because this is exactly where a bare edge is otherwise visible. This accessory brings ridge tiles in 1:48 scale for completing houses, barns and ruins in dioramas.
It comes into its own most often on brick buildings in village and small-town scenes, on farm buildings and on damaged structures where part of the ridge is missing and the rest is holding. It combines well with tile roofing, whether from a ready-made sheet or home-made. A broken ridge with the rafters laid bare is one of the most rewarding details of a battlefield. A roof with an unfinished ridge gives away haste even on an otherwise carefully built structure.
Fired clay is not uniform: layer several close shades from ocher to red-brown and let them show through one another. A dry brush will pick out the edges, while a darker glaze will underline the joints between the individual pieces. Suggest moss and self-seeded growth in dots, not continuously. A new piece next to an old one looks credible only when it differs in the depth of its color as well. Mark the horizontal line of the ridge out in pencil beforehand.
