Quinta Studio 1:48 Mitsubishi F-2B — color 3D interior (1:48)

A color 3D decal from Quinta Studio meant for detailing the interior of a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi F-2B fighter in 1:48 scale. This is the smaller version of the set. The raised, full-color elements of the instrument panel, the side consoles and the cockpit detail are printed on backing decal paper and are applied like a decal: the sheet is briefly soaked in lukewarm water and the element slides off the paper into place. They are neither photo-etch nor resin. The decals are shaped for the parts of the Hasegawa kit.

What the set is and how it works

A 3D decal combines real depth (raised dials, switches and levers) with factory color, so the interior looks realistic with no need for elaborate painting. The elements have no adhesive layer of their own: after roughly fifteen seconds in lukewarm water they slide off the backing paper and hold on a gloss clear coat (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22) with which you coat the cockpit surfaces beforehand. A matte surface is a mistake; an element will not hold on it.

Use and tips

• Before applying, clean the surfaces, degrease them and coat them with a gloss clear coat; an element will not hold on a matte surface.
• Separate the parts carefully and lay them down accurately; an element is pliable and follows the shape.
• Any edges are secured with a drop of cyanoacrylate; do not use a decal softener or a setting solution at all, they would attack the printed resin.
