The masking plugs 1:48 Wyvern S.4 wheel bay plugs are for closing the landing gear bays of the British carrier aircraft Westland Wyvern. Meant for the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An open landing gear bay is a trap while spraying. It looks like a small opening, but inside it has a many-featured roof and walls that overspray reaches from every angle and from which it can be removed only with great difficulty. A plug shaped to the outline of the bay closes it all at once, so paint simply cannot get into it and the interior stays in the shade you gave it.
The Trumpeter kit serves as the basis; it is bought separately.
The Wyvern was a British carrier strike aircraft powered by a turboprop engine, which at the time of its creation placed it among the unusual machines. It carried two contra-rotating propellers in front of it because of the enormous torque that would otherwise have swung the machine on take-off from a deck. The S.4 version served with the Fleet Air Arm in the 1950s and saw combat during the Suez operation in 1956. In development terms it was a dead end, and that is exactly why it is among the most interesting postwar carrier types.
Builders of the Wyvern in 1:48 scale who paint the interior of the bays separately and do not want to spoil it with the top coat. This is an aid for the painting stage, not parts of the aircraft. It saves cleaning out a bay that would otherwise have to be repainted with a brush past the landing gear leg.
