An Eduard photo-etched set for a model of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter in 1:144 scale. The metal parts bring detail to the tiny model that plastic cannot carry in this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX was the fighter version created as a quick answer to the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Its airframe received a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 with a two-stage supercharger, thanks to which the airplane kept its performance at high altitude as well. The Mk.IX became one of the most widespread versions of the whole family and flew with a number of Allied air forces. A span of around eleven meters works out in 1:144 scale at just under eight centimeters, so the model is barely longer than the palm of a hand.
Photo-etching is a thin metal sheet with an etched relief. It is in the smallest scales that its benefit is greatest: a plastic part that ought to be a few tenths of a millimeter thick in scale simply cannot be injection molded, whereas a metal sheet has that thickness of its own accord. The contents of the fret, the order of assembly and the places where the individual parts belong are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
In 1:144 scale the parts are truly tiny, so prepare tweezers with fine tips, a sharp blade and a light-colored mat on which you will find a part that has flown off. Separate the parts by cutting, not by breaking them out, otherwise the thin metal twists. They are glued with super glue applied on the tip of a toothpick; polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash the fret, degrease it and use a primer, otherwise the paint flakes off the smooth metal.
A photo-etched fret is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
