Responsibility details are not available.
The package contains individual thistles for dioramas and vignettes in 1:48 scale. The plants are separated from the sheet, shaped and planted into finished terrain. The manufacturer is the Czech company Model Scene, which focuses on diorama vegetation and scenery materials. It is not a kit but an accessory for finishing a scene. The name gives a range of 1:45 and 1:48.
Thistles are robust spiny herbs with sharply toothed leaves, a stiff stalk and spherical to cylindrical flower heads. They grow on dry, poor and disturbed soils – on pastures, field margins, fill, by tracks, on waste ground and in places where agricultural upkeep has ended. They are typical plants of abandoned landscape, and that is why they have such a strong narrative effect in a diorama: they suggest that nobody has looked after the plot for some time. They flower in summer, when their heads rise above the surrounding dried-out grass.
Plant thistles singly or in small groups, not in a continuous band – in nature they grow scattered. They show to best effect at the edge of a track, by a fence post, on the boundary between a field and a margin, or among ruins. Keep the stalk upright, open the leaves out slightly and turn them to the sides, so that the plant does not read as flat. Glue with cyanoacrylate into a pre-drilled hole and cover the base with dry grass or a scatter. Choose surroundings that are rather dried out and lighter than rich green – a thistle does not belong in a lush damp meadow.
This is a scenery accessory, not a model kit. The glue, the paints, the base and any further material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
