While the basic variant of the same carrier works with the deck, the subject here is the lift, that is the platform on which machines move between the hangar and the flight deck. The Type 2 label sets this treatment apart from the first version of the motif. The base is prepared for models in 1:72 scale.
The Cavour is the most significant unit of the present-day Italian Navy and carries the pennant C-550. Her design combines an aircraft carrier with an amphibious capability, so besides aircraft she can also carry ground vehicles. On such a ship the lifts are the place where machines and crews meet most, and that is exactly why they tend to be a rewarding subject for deck scenes.
It suggests itself to concentrate the scene on a single machine with its lifting surfaces folded, as if it were waiting to be lowered into the hangar. Add a figure of a crewman at the edge of the platform and the scene gains scale at once. If you photograph the base, count on a smooth area reflecting light, so place the source off the axis of the shot. A smaller scene also invites more careful work on the details of the machine itself.
