A photo-etched set for a model of the A-10A Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts replace the places where the molded plastic is too thick.

An accessory for a model of the American A-10A Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft. The parts are etched from thin metal sheet and are held on the fret only by small tabs, from which they are cut away. The thickness of the material is an order smaller than on a molded part, so grilles, small panels and rims finally look like sheet metal in scale rather than like a slab.
The A-10 is an aircraft built literally around its cannon. Its designers started from the requirement to support ground troops and adapted everything else to it: the pilot sits in a titanium tub, the controls are duplicated and the pair of turbofan engines sits high above the rear fuselage, where the wing and the tail surfaces shield them. The machine is therefore strikingly angular and popular among modelers.
Cut the part off on a hard surface with a sharp blade, not with scissors, otherwise it will twist. Bend it in a bending tool or between two blades, always in one go and along the whole length of the edge. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a pin; plastic cement does not hold on metal. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will chip off during handling. Level the places where the etch is to go beforehand, because a thin part will not hide an uneven surface.
The package contains photo-etched parts. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
