A double-sided mask for the cockpit canopy frames of the Douglas A-1H/J Skyraider in 1:48 scale for the mold named in the item.
Responsibility details are not available.
The stencils cover the framing of the sliding canopy and of the side glazing of the single-seat Skyraider attack aircraft. The cutouts are prepared for the outer and the inner side of the parts and match the mold of the Tamiya brand given in the name.
The Skyraider came about at the close of the Second World War as a carrier attack aircraft and managed what the jet machines of its day could not: to stay over the battlefield for hours on end while carrying weapons of a weight comparable with heavy bombers. A powerful radial engine with a large four-blade propeller gave the aircraft a characteristic sound and appearance. The A-1H and A-1J versions were single-seat and in Southeast Asia they became famous mainly for escorting rescue helicopters, when the machines circled above a downed pilot and suppressed fire from the ground. For that work precisely they needed the long endurance and the toughness that nobody found in jet types.
The cockpit of the Skyraider is fairly long and the sliding piece of the canopy has straight but irregularly spaced frames, which a brush is hard to line up with. Behind the cockpit the glazing continues, and there painting by hand goes astray altogether. The double-sided form moreover covers the frame from inside as well, which is useful if you are building a model with the cockpit open.
