A photo-etched detail set in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It holds fine metal parts meant for sharpening the plastic kit of the early Mustang in the A-36 and P-51A versions. It is an accessory, not a model of the aircraft; the parts are used in place of selected plastic elements or added to them. The particular contents of the photo-etch follow the instructions enclosed in the package.
The A-36 Apache and the P-51A are among the first production versions of the legendary Mustang, still with the American Allison V-1710 engine. The A-36 was put into combat as a dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft with dive brakes, while the P-51A served as a fighter and reconnaissance machine. The early Mustangs with the Allison excelled at low and medium altitudes; only the later move to the Merlin engine made them the famous high-altitude fighters.
The parts are cut out of the fret, bent along the engraved lines and glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on small flat areas PVA glue (white glue) can be used as well. The photo-etched elements most often sharpen the cockpit, the instrument panel, the seat belts and other fine details. Degrease the surfaces before gluing; painting with an airbrush after the parts are on gives a uniform surface.
This is an accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
