It is neither an airplane model nor a kit, but a detailing accessory that fits out the cockpit with finished colored parts. The technology combines the three-dimensional depth of resin parts with the simplicity of colored photo-etch: a layer of gloss varnish over the dials makes them look glazed, and the placards and the small controls are printed in color straight away.
The A-6A Intruder was an American carrier-based attack aircraft with a crew of two sitting side by side. As a subsonic all-weather machine it could strike targets in poor visibility and at night, and it became the backbone of the US Navy's strike capability during the war in Vietnam. The wide cockpit with its two stations offers plenty of surfaces to detail.
The parts are thicker than a classic waterslide decal, but they are transferred in the same way: the sheet is briefly soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and the element slides off the backing paper. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on gloss varnish; in broken-up places a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer at all, as their chemicals attack the printed resin of the element. The panels are pressed gently into the shape of the instrument panel and the side consoles. The set cuts the time spent painting the interior considerably.
