1:48 A6M2b Reisen Control Surfaces is a set of control surface and flap masks for a model of the Reisen in the A6M2b version in 1:48 scale. It serves to spray a shadow effect.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains die-cut masks used to spray a shadow along the dividing lines of the moving surfaces. The control surfaces and flaps then look as if they were separate and slightly deflected, while in reality they remain a fixed part of the model.
Anyone who wants genuinely deflected control surfaces on a model has to cut them off, sand the edges, add the missing structures and glue the parts back in. That is several evenings of work, and if it goes wrong the finished airframe is damaged. A masked shadow gets around that route. Nothing is done to the plastic, and if you do not like the result, the surface can be sprayed over with the base shade and tried again. That is exactly why it is a good first step for a builder who does not yet dare to cut.
Finish the base coat and let it cure, otherwise the mask will leave an imprint. Mix a shade darkened against the surrounding color, lay the mask along the line and press it down along its whole length. Spray in short bursts at lower pressure and build the intensity of the shadow up gradually. Take the mask off while the varnish is still only set. Finally unify everything with matte varnish. The subject is the Japanese A6M carrier fighter in the A6M2b version, known as the Reisen or the Zero.
