A package of die-cut films for masking the landing gear bays of the A6M5 Model 52 fighter in 1:48 scale, prepared according to the name for Eduard castings.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Reisen in the Model 52 version was built from the autumn of 1943 and became the most widespread type of the whole line. The shortened wing with fixed tips took higher speed in a dive, the separated exhausts added thrust, and from the later batches armor and self-sealing fuel tanks were added. Even so, the gap against the American opponents, who had meanwhile fielded machines with twice the engine power, could not be closed.
The interior of the landing gear spaces on Japanese naval machines tends to be done in a different color than the surrounding surfaces, and the transition runs along rounded outlines. Tracing by hand with tape costs a great deal of time here and the finish works its way under it anyway. A cut from thin film gets around the problem: it adheres along the whole length of the edge and after spraying it comes off in one piece.
The coloring of Japanese naval machines of the last years of the war tends to be rewarding on a model precisely because of the contrast between the dark upper surfaces, the light underside and the differently treated interiors. Cleanly separated bays turn such a model into a whole that looks finished even without further shading.
The package consists of masking material alone in 1:48 scale. The plastic parts are sold separately.
