A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard in 1:48 scale. A detail set for sharpening up a model of the Japanese carrier-based Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero fighter. The parts are etched from thin sheet metal and serve to replace and supplement the fine detail that injection-molded plastic cannot capture faithfully. The set is an aftermarket accessory, not a model in its own right: it is added to the matching plastic kit of the aircraft.
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was the main Japanese carrier-based fighter of the Second World War, famous for its long range and excellent agility. The A6M5 version from the later part of the war was given a strengthened structure and reworked wings for higher permitted speeds; it operated from the decks of aircraft carriers and from land bases in the Pacific alike.
The photo-etched parts are separated with a sharp knife on a cutting surface and bent with a bending tool or between two rulers. They are glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate) or with a small amount of epoxy. The seat, the belts and the cockpit instrument panel are among the most prominent details on a Zero, and photo-etch brings them out. Degrease the parts before painting; metal holds paint better once a primer has been applied.
This is a photo-etched detail accessory, not an aircraft model. The kit itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
