This is a set of self-adhesive masks from the Art Scale brand for a plastic model of the Japanese carrier aircraft Aichi B7A1 in 1:48 scale. The masks are supplied pre-cut to shape, so there is no cutting out of masking tape with a knife, and they are stuck straight onto the clear part, that is onto the glazing of the model. This set is the single-sided form, that is the variant for masking from the outer face; the double-sided set of the same type is a separate item. The masks are cut for the particular Hasegawa kit; on a model from another maker they need not fit.
The Aichi B7A was a Japanese carrier-based attack aircraft of the end of the Second World War, designated Grace by the Allies. Its identifying feature is the cranked wing of inverted gull form and the hefty airframe of a single-engine machine. The designation B7A1 was carried by the first machines of the series; the type never reached large-scale production. For a modeler the main hard nut is the long two-seat cockpit with its prominent framing, whose sharp edges are practically impossible to do with a brush.
First wash and degrease the glazing; fingerprints under a mask leave marks. Carry the mask over with tweezers, lay it down dry and press the edges with a toothpick or a blunt stick. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat creates a little step at the edge that shows after it is taken off. It pays to spray the shade of the frames first and only then the top color. Take the mask off at a shallow angle as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
