About product

Eduard photo-etched steel seat belts 1:48 Arado Ar-234B-2

A set of photo-etched seat belts for the cockpit of a model of the Arado Ar 234B-2 in 1:48 scale. The material is what matters: the belts are etched from steel, not from brass. Steel sheet holds its shape considerably better once bent, so a belt can be shaped convincingly as it would really hang over the edge of a seat or lie on the cushion. Naturally hanging belts are exactly the detail that anyone who looks into a cockpit notices on a finished model. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.

The real subject

The Arado Ar 234 was a twin-engine jet aircraft from the end of the Second World War, laid out as a high-wing monoplane with a narrow fuselage. The B-2 version had conventional retractable landing gear, which replaced the earlier solution with a take-off trolley and landing skids. The power came from two jet engines housed in nacelles under the wing. The cockpit was glazed in the forward fuselage and offered the pilot an unusually good view forward. From the point of view of building a model it is exactly the extensive glazing that is the reason it pays to invest in the interior: the cockpit is clearly visible under it.

Usage tips

Separate the belts with a scalpel, carry them over with tweezers and, before you start gluing, shape them dry to the form of the seat. Make the bends around a blunt tool, so that a smooth curve arises rather than a sharp kink. They glue with a small drop of super glue, and on metal cement for plastic is out of the question. Fit the belts only once the cockpit is painted and dry. If the parts are printed in color, do not paint over them; any wear on the edges can be touched in with a fine brush. Finally, very fine soiling helps, which visually settles the belts into the space of the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of a model of the Arado Ar 234B-2 in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who detail a cockpit under a large glazed area
  • Those who want belts with a realistic sag instead of a plastic imitation
  • Beginners in working with photo-etch, as belts are a rewarding first step

It is not a kit of the aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Steel sheet holds its shape once formed, so a belt stays where you bend it. Brass springs back under its own elasticity.

Only once the cockpit is painted, ideally just before the fuselage is closed, so that they are not handled needlessly.

If they are printed in color, they are not painted over. Whether the set has that printing is stated on the box of the set.

It is not. It is only a set of belts for a cockpit. The plastic model has to be bought separately.
