The Avro Lancaster B.III Dambuster in 1:48 scale is a sizable COBI brick kit after the bomber associated with the raid on the German dams.
Responsibility details are not available.
This block model from the COBI brand treats the British four-engine bomber in the version made famous by a single night. The plastic elements join by snapping together, their shades are given at the factory, and the finished aircraft is among the largest pieces of the whole line in span.
On the night of the sixteenth to the seventeenth of May 1943 a specially assembled squadron, No. 617 Squadron, took off to attack the water works in the Ruhr. It carried an unusual weapon designed by Barnes Wallis – a spinning charge that bounced off the water after it landed and then sank to the foot of the dam. The crews had to fly at night only a few dozen feet above the water and read their exact height from the intersection of two beams of light. The Möhne and Eder dams were breached, but the price of the success was high: of nineteen machines, eight did not return.
Build the fuselage on a flat board, so that the long load-bearing section does not twist. Fit the engine nacelles only once the whole wing is finished and keep checking the dihedral of the two halves against each other. Because of the span, measure your free space in advance – an aircraft of this format may not fit on an ordinary shelf.
The aircraft goes together from kit elements that are attached in turn to a load-bearing frame.
