About product

Quinta Studio 1:48 Axial Propeller – a wooden propeller decal

A decal from Quinta Studio that transfers a faithful imitation of the laminated wood of a period Axial propeller onto a plastic propeller. It is neither a kit nor the propeller itself — the decal is applied to a part from the model and replaces demanding painting of the wood grain. Intended for models of period First World War aircraft in 1:48 scale. The decal is prepared for kits from Eduard.

The real subject

Wooden propellers of First World War aircraft were made by gluing together layers of different kinds of wood. The German Axial type propeller was among the widespread ones, and its pattern of growth rings and of the transitions between the laminations is a conspicuous detail on a model.

Use

  • It is a good idea to lay a light wood shade under the propeller and apply the decal onto that.
  • The decal is cut out, dipped briefly in water and slid onto the propeller blade.
  • We recommend a coat of varnish at the end to even out the sheen and to protect it.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of period aircraft who want a realistic wooden propeller without painting it by hand.
  • Modelers in 1:48 scale.

This is an accessory (a decal), not the model itself. Paints, varnish and the kit are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a wood grain decal that is applied to the propeller from your kit and replaces painting the wood by hand.

A base in a light wood shade is recommended, as the decal shows up well on it. A coat of varnish at the end is advisable.

For period First World War aircraft in 1:48 scale that had Axial type propellers. The set is prepared for kits from Eduard.
