A set of masks for the glazing of the B-25 medium bomber in the C and D versions, 1:48 scale. The target kits are from Academy and Accurate Miniatures. On a twin-engine bomber the panes are counted in dozens and each has a different angle, so taping by hand takes longer than building the whole airframe.
The B-25 was created at North American as a medium bomber with a pair of Wright Cyclone radial engines and with a characteristic twin vertical tail. The C and D versions differed from each other practically not at all technically; the difference lay in the plant the machines came from. Both have a fully glazed nose for the navigator and the bombardier, a dorsal gun turret with a transparent cover, side windows in the fuselage and a retractable ventral turret, which crews often had removed for its impracticality. It was the early Mitchells that carried the war over the Mediterranean, over the Pacific and over Burma.
Work in sections and do not hurry: the whole nose first, then the cockpit, and the turret and side windows at the end. Press every piece down all round with a blunt wooden stick and keep checking against the light whether a gap has been left anywhere. Direct the spraying square to the surface, so that paint does not get under the edge of the steeply set panes. When you are finished, uncover the glazing from the back forwards.
