The Brewster Buffalo had an unusually roomy cockpit for its day and a one-piece canopy that arches over it without needless framing. A remarkable amount is therefore visible inside: the side walls, the headrest and the armor plate behind the seat, which on other types the canopy hides. Anyone building the model has a chance here to show what usually stays out of sight.
That advantage brings demands, though. Every smear on the inner face shows through such a large clear area, and a frame painted only from the outside looks like a strip stuck on. The sheet therefore deals with both faces of the glazing: from inside the framing gets the cockpit color, from outside the color of the upper surfaces, and the edge stays sharp in both cases.
Two national insignia masks are included as well. A sprayed marking lies directly in the paint and leaves no step on the surface, which helps especially on models with a uniform sheen.
The letter B and the number 339 mark the export form of the machine, flown by Dutch, British and Finnish units. In Finnish service the Buffalo scored remarkable successes, even though in the Pacific it counted as a type on the edge of usability. That contradiction makes it a rewarding subject.
It helps to work from the largest shape to the smallest and to press the edge down with a wooden stick rather than a fingernail. Grease from the fingers is the most common reason for the film giving way at the edge and letting paint under it.
The film is self-adhesive, machine-cut, and it comes off without residue when the work is done. The cut is prepared for the Tamiya kit in this scale; the kit itself is not part of the delivery.
