A scenic accessory for a diorama in 1:48 scale. These are not parts for a model but stand-alone objects of a scene, painted and placed separately. Drink cans are among the props a viewer does not notice at first glance, but without which a scene looks cleared out: scattered around seated figures, lined up on a box or dropped in a corner, they suggest at once that somebody is using the space.
The accessory suits off-duty and back-area scenes, interior vignettes, figures by a vehicle and also a town scene. It is exactly small objects of this kind that decide whether a diorama looks like a frozen moment or like a display case. In 1:48 scale the cans are very small, so they work best in groups — several pieces together read better to the eye than one isolated object. The manufacturer also makes the same subject in further scales.
With objects this small it pays to paint them before separating them from the carrier part, if the form allows it — a finished piece is hard to work with in the fingers. After cleaning up, lay down a filler primer, ideally by spraying, because a coat from a brush would cover the detail on such a small cylinder. Paint the body of the can in a light base color and suggest the colored bands with a fine brush; in this scale the aim is not accurate artwork but a color impression. Set the lid and the bottom rim apart in a metallic shade and go over them with a gloss varnish, so that the metal reflects light. Crushed pieces are brought to life by a dark wash in the recesses. Place them irregularly in a scene — perfectly lined-up props look lifeless.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
