1:48 Bell P-39N Airacobra, Eduard covering masks for the glazing of the cockpit. An accessory for the painting stage, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of covering masks from the Czech maker Eduard, cut for the cockpit of the single-seat Bell P-39N fighter in 1:48 scale. The package contains neither a model of the aircraft nor its parts; it is an aid for a single stage of the build, namely for painting the framing of the glazing.
Bell's designers put the engine behind the pilot and spun the propeller with a long shaft led under the floor of the cockpit. The nose thus freed up then took the wheel of the nose gear and a cannon firing through the propeller axis. Getting inside was handled not by a sliding canopy but by doors on the sides of the fuselage as on an automobile. The glazing is formed by several separate panes with conspicuous framing, and tracing exactly that with a brush by hand is among the most irksome operations of the whole build. The N version falls into the later production batches, and a large part of Airacobra production headed for the Soviet Air Force.
First rid the glazing of grease, seat the parts exactly to the frames and press the edges down with the blunt tip of a toothpick. Spray several thin layers one after another; one thick layer likes to get under the edge and make a ragged edge. Apply the interior shade of the frames before the outer camouflage.
