About product

Eduard 1:48 Bell P-39Q Airacobra seatbelts STEEL

This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of the airplane. The set from the Czech maker Eduard is made for 1:48 scale and concentrates on a single assembly of the pilot's cockpit, namely the seat belts. The name carries the word seatbelts and the designation STEEL, by which Eduard distinguishes this variant from the others.

What it is for on a model

Seat belts are the first thing the eye notices in an open cockpit. A bare plastic seat reads flat and empty, whereas a thin belt can be bent so that it drapes naturally over the edge of the cushion and over the backrest. This one small thing does more for the credibility of an interior than most other modifications, and it shows even on a finished model with the canopy closed, as long as the clear part is clean.

Work tips

  • Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface, not with nippers.
  • Shape the bends step by step with flat tweezers, in small stages, so the metal does not crack.
  • Fix them with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a really vanishing amount.
  • Fit the seat before the fuselage halves are joined; afterward you will no longer reach it.

Who the set is for

It will be valued by a modeler who builds the Airacobra in 1:48 scale with an open cockpit and wants the inside to be credible even seen from close up. The scope is small and focused, so the set also serves well as a first acquaintance with photo-etched parts before one embarks on larger assemblies.

FAQ

No, it is an add-on set. It is added to a plastic kit the modeler already owns.

Before the fuselage halves are joined. Once the cockpit is closed you will not reach the seat.

Cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount. Ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal.
