Stencils for the glazing of the Bf 109 G-2 fighter in 1:48 scale, cut for the Hasegawa kit. On the sheet there are shapes for the face and for the back of the clear parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 109 G-2 reached combat units during 1942 and was the first widely distributed representative of the so-called Gustav series. Against the later machines it looks unusually smooth: it does not yet have the bulges over the breeches of the synchronized machine guns, which appeared only with the G-6 version, and the outline of the fuselage therefore stays slim. It flew over Stalingrad, in tropical trim with a dust filter over North Africa, and in large numbers it also reached Romanian, Croatian and Hungarian squadrons.
The cover of the pilot's compartment on this machine is still of an older construction, that is heavily divided, with a quantity of narrow frames and with an armor plate behind the airman's head. Outlining such a grid with a brush by hand means dozens of minutes of work and a single hesitation of the hand shows. Cut film shortens this part of the build to a few minutes and the result has sharp edges along its whole length.
The clear part is first washed in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and left to dry freely, so that no greasy traces from the fingers stay on it. Then the individual shapes are transferred with tweezers, pressed down and checked that no air bubble has stayed anywhere. Next comes the spraying of the shade of the inside of the cockpit, after it the primer and the covering camouflage. The film is removed while the paint is still freshly dry.
