Glazing masks for the Messerschmitt Bf 109F fighter in 1:48 scale. The sheet holds shapes for the outer and the inner side and is cut to the clear parts of the ICM kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F version is considered the aerodynamically most balanced form of the Messerschmitt 109. Rounded wing tips replaced the squared-off ends of Emil, the tailplane struts disappeared, the retractable tail wheel hid in the fuselage and the radiators moved deeper under the flying surface. The armament moved into the fuselage and onto the propeller axis, which improved agility, but some pilots complained of weaker fire. It was on the Friedrich that pilots achieved their first great successes over the Channel and on the Eastern Front.
The cockpit has three parts: a fixed windscreen with armored glass, a hinged middle section and a fixed rear part. The frames are straight and fairly wide, so every inaccuracy shows on them. The set holds shapes for the outer side and smaller counterparts for the inner surface with them.
Fit the inner shapes while building the interior and the outer ones only before the camouflage. Mask the middle section separately and leave it loose; the model can then be built with the cockpit open without any touching in afterwards.
Besides the usual tools a magnifying glass is useful. The frames of the Friedrich are so narrow in this scale that it is hard to check by eye whether a shape sits exactly on the edge.
Once the film is off, check against the light whether paint has got under the edge. A small overlap can be removed with a wooden toothpick sharpened to a wedge, as a metal tool would scratch the clear part.
