A masking set for the clear parts of a Bf 109F model in 1:48 scale. The stencils are applied to the glazing before spraying and lifted off once the paint has dried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109F, known among modelers by the nickname Friedrich, was the aerodynamically cleanest version of the German fighter. You can recognize it by the rounded wing tips and by the horizontal tail without struts, which the older versions still had. It was powered by an inverted Daimler-Benz DB 601 V12. The cockpit glazing is framed, so when painting it is the framing that gives the most work.
Masking stencils for the clear parts of the model in 1:48 scale. They follow the shape of the framing, so they only have to be laid on and pressed down; outlining with tape and cutting with a scalpel directly on a thin clear part falls away. Which parts the set covers and in what order they are applied is shown by the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Clean and degrease the glazing before applying them; on a greasy surface a stencil does not hold and paint creeps under it. Press the edges down with the blunt tip of a toothpick. Apply the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat tears at the edge of the stencil and flakes away beyond the masked area as it comes off. Once dry, raise the stencil with the tip of a scalpel at a shallow angle and pull it away at a slant, so as not to scratch the clear part.
For modelers who want the cockpit framing sharp and straight and do not want to cut it laboriously out of tape. The package contains only the masking set; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
