Masks for the cockpit glazing of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:48 scale. They cover the frames of the canopy and of the windscreen from both sides and the cut matches the kit by the brand Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G-6 version became the most numerous variant of the whole family, with over 12000 built. Its recognition features are the bulged fairings above the synchronized 13 mm machine guns, which would not otherwise fit into the nose; the crews called them bulges. The aircraft was built in many forms, from fighter through ground-attack to two-seat trainer.
For the modeler one detail matters: during production two entirely different canopies alternated on this block. The older framed type had a transverse brace above the pilot's head and an armored plate on a frame at the rear, while the newer lighter form was practically free of frames and offered a far better view. The shapes of the mask therefore depend on which variant the kit contains.
A framed canopy is among the most laborious elements of a small fighter, because the frames are narrow and strongly curved. The die-cut parts cover them exactly and the additional shapes for the inner side make sure the frame gets paint as seen from the cockpit too. The time saved is noticeable especially for modelers who build several examples of this version side by side.
The kit is sold separately and its contents differ between individual releases.
