Film for masking the glazing of the Messerschmitt Bf 110C heavy fighter in 1:48 scale. The package carries two pre-cut templates: one defines the frames of the long cockpit from outside, the other covers the glazing from inside. The cut is figured for the kit by the brand Eduard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 110 was to be the elite of the Luftwaffe. A twin-engine machine with long range and strong gun armament in the nose, it was given the designation of destroyer and its crews considered themselves hand-picked. The C version with Daimler-Benz 601 engines and clipped wing tips entered service just before the war and handled the campaigns in Poland and in France. Over England, though, the limit of the whole concept showed: against agile single-engine fighters the heavy aircraft was at a clear disadvantage and its losses forced the command to assign other fighters to escort it. The type nevertheless found a second life as an attack and later a night fighting machine, and in that role it served to the end of the war.
The glazing of the Bf 110 is among the longest that appear on models of the period. It runs from the windscreen through the cockpit as far as the rear gunner's station and there are frames on it in abundance. It is precisely on a cockpit like that which the difference between hand-cut tape and a machine-cut sheet shows most, because every inaccuracy is repeated along the whole length and the eye catches it at once. The inner film also makes it possible to color the frames from both sides, which is useful when the model is built with the rear section slid open.
