Masks for spraying the national insignia on a Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B model in 1:48 scale, cut for Airfix kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Blackburn Buccaneer was a British two-seat attack aircraft built for penetration at low altitude. It had a substantial airframe, a folding nose and fuselage surfaces on which the insignia are clearly visible. The S.2B designation belongs to the later S.2 series; the figure 2023 in the name does not refer to the aircraft but to the release of the kit the masks are cut for.
The set contains national insignia masks for 1:48 scale and is cut for Airfix kits. The insignia are not stuck on but sprayed, so on the model they arise directly out of the paint. The decal carrier film, which likes to silver on a riveted and intricate surface, falls away with it, and the insignia has the same sheen as the surrounding finish. The manufacturer's instructions give the exact placement and the order of the steps.
Let the base coat dry properly and degrease the area. Seat the mask according to the instructions, press it down around its whole perimeter and spray a thin coat in two or three passes; one heavy coat runs under the edge. With insignia made up of several colors, work in layers and let the paint flash off between the steps. Then lift the mask off with tweezers at a sharp angle, before the finish has fully cured.
It will be appreciated by a modeler who wants the insignia sharp and without a glossy edge, and also by anyone who goes on to weather the model: a sprayed insignia can be worked into with rubs just like the rest of the finish. The model, paints and varnish are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
