Masking templates for spraying American national insignia onto a model of the Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress bomber in 1:48 scale, meant for the HK Models kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sprayed marking is part of the finish. It has no clear carrier film under it, so once dry its edge does not shine, does not ripple across engraving and does not age differently from the paint around it. On the large national insignia on the wing and the fuselage of a bomber that difference shows at first glance, because they are the largest markings on the model.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was an American four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War, used mainly over Europe in daylight bombing. The F version could be told from the later one among other things by the undivided glazing of the nose without dividing frames. The machines wore conspicuous American national insignia, that is a white star in a blue field, and it is precisely on them that the care of the builder shows. The templates are worked for the HK Models kit in 1:48 scale.
The templates are stuck onto a finished and matured base coat, that is always before the marking itself is sprayed. The surface must be clean and degreased and the edges of the template have to be pressed down properly, so that no paint seeps under them. Spray several times and thinly; a heavy coat makes a ridge at the edge which stays palpable once the template is taken off. With a marking in several colors, work layer by layer according to the instructions and let each one dry properly. Take the template off while the finish has only just dried, and pull it at an angle across the edge, not straight upward.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
