Photo-etched steel harness belts for the crew of the Beaufighter Mk.VI in 1:48 scale. The accessory is cut for the kit from Revell.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bristol Beaufighter grew out of the Beaufort torpedo bomber and quickly won the reputation of a machine that could carry anything. Its weapon was a crushing salvo of four twenty-millimeter cannons in the nose, completed by machine guns in the wing. The Mk.VI version received Bristol Hercules VI radial engines and in the night form it carried an onboard radar, with which the British squadrons made night raids over England markedly more expensive for the enemy from 1942. The crew of two sat far apart: the pilot in the nose, the second man in a glazed cupola behind the wing.
The photo-etched plate is made of steel, not of the usual brass. It carries the complete set of belts for the pilot and the operator including the buckles, adjusting fittings and anchoring eyes. Steel is stiffer, holds the shape set after bending and does not spring back, so a belt can be routed over the edge of a seat and also left hanging freely beside it.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard mat and degrease the surface with denatured alcohol. It is advisable to coat the steel with a primer for metals before painting. Make the bends over a steel ruler and glue the buckles with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the head of a pin. The belts stand out when they are given a slightly irregular, wavy course.
A choice for a modeler who documents an open cockpit with detailed photographs and wants an element in it with a faithful thickness of material. The model of the aircraft itself has to be obtained separately.
