1:48 Consolidated B-24J Liberator Tail Fin De-Icing Boot Airbrush Mask from MH models: templates for spraying the de-icing boots on the fins of the famous bomber exactly, for the Hobby Boss kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This specialized accessory from the Czech brand MH models aims at a single yet very conspicuous detail: the rubber de-icing boots on the leading edges of both vertical tail surfaces of the Liberator. Their dark bands run across the whole fin on a silver or olive machine and are hard to spray freehand; with a template they come about in a few minutes and with a perfectly crisp boundary. The masks are cut for the B-24J Liberator kit from Hobby Boss.
The Consolidated B-24J Liberator belonged among the most numerously built American heavy bombers of the Second World War and operated over Europe and the Pacific alike. The J version carried a nose turret and improved sighting equipment. The characteristic twin fins were given rubber de-icing boots, which broke the ice off by pulsating in flight; on a model this is a pronounced contrasting feature that lends the machine authenticity.
First finish the fins in the base camouflage and let them dry out well. Then lay the templates on, run a soft burnisher along the edges and spray the boots in a semi-gloss or slightly lightened black; a fine mist of dark gray in the middle of the bands will suggest wear of the rubber. Take the mask off before the paint has cured completely.
