1:48 Curtiss Hawk III (outside and inside masks) is a self-adhesive Montex masking set for the glazing frames of a biplane fighter. It is not a model, but an accessory for a 1:48 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks for the transparent parts of a model of the export Curtiss Hawk III biplane fighter. According to the name, the set holds masks for the outside and the inside of the frames. The templates are stuck straight onto the glazing and replace the laborious cutting of strips of masking tape.
The Hawk III was an American-built export biplane fighter of the 1930s, derived from the Curtiss carrier fighter family. It had a radial engine and retractable main landing gear, which set it apart from most contemporary biplanes at a time when fixed gear predominated. Machines of this type were delivered to several foreign users in Asia and used in the fighting of the second half of the 1930s.
On biplanes, paint likes to get where it should not. To keep it from creeping under the edge of a mask, press the mask down around its perimeter first and only then in the middle, so that any air is pushed out. A proven trick is to spray a very thin coat of the interior base color or of primer over the applied masks first: it seals the edge, and anything that does run under the mask will be in a color you will not see anyway. Only then apply the shade itself. Hold the airbrush at a right angle to the surface; spraying at a shallow angle drives paint under the edge.
There are masking templates only in the package. The model, paints and glue are not included.
