Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the American Douglas D-558-1 Skystreak experimental research aircraft in the version operated by the NACA, in 1:48 scale. The model captures the slim single-engine jet machine with its characteristic bright red finish, which served for research into flight at high speeds.
The Douglas D-558-1 Skystreak was one of the first post-war research aircraft intended to investigate aerodynamics in the transonic region. It was created for the US Navy and the NACA (the predecessor of NASA) in the second half of the 1940s, and in 1947 world speed records were set on it. The bright red finish was meant to improve the visibility of the machine during measurements. The findings from the Skystreak contributed to the development of supersonic flight.
It is advisable to start with a primer and a smooth, strongly red finish laid on with an airbrush, because a saturated red shows to advantage in an even coat. Mask the clear cockpit parts and accent the panel lines gently. Glue the small parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and work with tweezers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
