A double-sided set of masks for a model of the De Havilland Chipmunk T.20, 1:48 scale, dealing with the frames from outside and from inside.
Responsibility details are not available.
This version allows for the customer deciding to open the cockpit or at least to leave a view inside. Besides the external edging it therefore also takes care of the frames visible from the pilot's station, which matters a great deal on glazing that runs across both seats.
The T.20 form was aimed at foreign customers. Machines of this type served in Portugal, in the Middle East, in Southeast Asia and in Africa, where small air forces with limited budgets appreciated them in particular. Many examples passed into civilian hands after retirement and still fly at air shows today. It was the civilian owners who gave them colorful finishes, which differ markedly from the austere military schemes and make the model a bright piece on the shelf.
Spray the inner frames together with the interior before the fuselage is closed. The outside comes in turn with the overall finish of the machine. Give the paint time between coats, otherwise the edge tears away during removal and the repair takes more work than all the masking. Small flaws at the joint of frame and glass can be evened out with a fine brush at the end.
