A masking set, not a kit. It contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper in 1:48 scale for the Vampire F.3 version. The designation EXPERT corresponds to a higher grade of the New Ware range than BASIC, so the extent of the set tends to be wider. The particular list of masks is given in the instructions in the package.
The Vampire is a small aircraft with a very compact nacelle, so the ratio of glazed area to overall volume is unusually high and the cockpit dominates a model. The higher grade of the set is intended for a modeler who wants masking taken care of over a wider extent and will not be satisfied with the frames of the main canopy alone. The smooth surfaces of the Vampire, moreover, are unforgiving: where on an aircraft with a richly broken-up surface a small inaccuracy would be lost, here it is visible at first glance.
Wash the clear parts before sticking the masks on and let them dry. Lay the masks down with tweezers and press the edges, so that paint does not run under them. The recommended procedure is to spray the shade of the cockpit interior first, then the base coat and finally the top finish, as the frame then comes across as part of the airframe and not as a stuck-on strip. Apply the paint thinly and rather in several passes. If you are giving the model a glossy metal or silver surface, allow for the fact that it is harder to tape over and harder to put right, so get the masking work done before it. Remove the masks with tweezers while the finish is still fresh.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. Before buying, check that the masks match the kit you are building.
