A masking sheet for the glazing of the two-seat trainer version of the Dornier Do 335 in 1:48 scale. Cut for the Tamiya kit, with shapes for the outer and inner surfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Dornier Do 335 carried the nickname Pfeil and was among the fastest piston aircraft of its day. It was peculiar in the way it solved its power: one engine with a propeller was at the front, the second behind the cockpit with a pusher propeller behind the tail. That did away with the unpleasant moment on the failure of one engine that troubled ordinary twin-engine machines with power on the wings. For the case of an emergency exit the aircraft was given an ejection seat, and the rear propeller and the upper fin could be jettisoned.
The trainer variant was two-seat. The instructor sat behind the pupil in a separate raised compartment with a cover of its own, which forms a prominent step on the spine of the fuselage. On a model there are therefore two separate glazed assemblies with different framing and the masking is doubled by it. All the more useful, then, are ready shapes.
Wash both clear parts and let them dry separately, so that they do not get mixed up. Transfer the shapes with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick. The inner pieces are intended for a build with the covers hinged open, when both compartments are visible. Apply the paint in thin coats and pull the film off shortly after it becomes tacky, so that the edge stays sharp.
