1:48 Douglas A-4M Skyhawk BASIC kabuki masks, a New Ware masking set in the basic level of extent for the late version of the Skyhawk.
Responsibility details are not available.
A covering set of the New Ware brand for a model of the light attack aircraft A-4M in 1:48 scale. The designation BASIC in the name states the basic level of extent that the maker offers; above it stand still wider levels, carried as separate items. The set is meant for painting the model; it contains neither a kit nor parts of the aircraft.
The A-4 was designed as a small and light carrier-borne attack machine with a delta wing. The span came out so economically that the wing did not have to fold for stowage on the ship, an exceptional solution among carrier types that saved weight as well as mechanisms. The M version was among the last batches and served with the US Marine Corps; its recognition feature is the enlarged, more highly domed cockpit canopy, which improved the view. It is precisely the shape of the canopy that decides that a mask for the older versions will not fit this machine.
Clean the glazing and seat the masks to the engraved frames, pressing the edges down with a blunt tool. Spray a light base first and only then the shade itself; the transition is then not noticeable. Remove the mask before the paint has fully cured and the edge will stay cleaner. If the model is to get the gray and white finishes of the Marine Corps, count on the light shades revealing every imperfection under the mask, so it pays to sand the surface beforehand with a fine abrasive.
